You Remind Me of Me

An interesting look at the use of mimicry in persuasion. Makes total sense, though the cynical mind certainly reads it with an eyebrow cocked.

Now, it refers to physical mimicry and people who’re in the same place. However, it really got me pondering how these techniques would be applicable online.

After all, there are many fewer interaction options and cues online, and they don’t tend to be overly subtle, so heavy-handedness or awkwardness would be easily noticed. Though I guess overt ass-kissing, manipulation, or theft have their place… 🙂

  1. Interesting read. Thanks. I always wondered when talking to someone with a thick accent why I have to force myself not to pick it up. Now I know.
