Today Andrew and I bolstered our strength with an enormous brunch, then headed over to Chad and Patience’s to deliver stuffed toys (my niece now owns a Piglet that’s bigger than she is), make sure their new external hard drive was good to go, and to rock out.

Patience has been champing at the bit to try Guitar Hero for a while, and we finally managed to schedule it. Gee, competitive people don’t like games like that AT ALL, do they? 🙂 When the Tom Morello challenge came up, it was like she took it personally. She and Andrew took turns until they finally beat him. (I believe Patience was playing during that round.) I fear what will happen once they work their way up to the Slash challenge…

My brother watched Patience play the tutorials briefly, then proceeded to grind out his first song with, like, an 86% accuracy rate. Stupid long-fingered, musician people. Oh, and to add insult to injury, he’s left-handed, but because the display is set up for right-handed play, he played “backwards”. Hmph.

My niece, music lover that she is, was happy to bounce to the songs. Bouncebouncebounce. To almost every song. for three or four hours. I don’t think Andrew or I are going to be able to lift our arms tomorrow. She seemed to be particularly fond of Pat Benatar. I approve. It did not go unnoticed, of course, that many of the songs in Legends of Rock are considerably older than her mother. 🙂

At one point, Patience was rocking out in the living room and my brother was making seafood-stuffed tomato hors d’oeuvres in the kitchen. The incongruity of it to the past (there was a roast and potatoes in the crock pot, too) amused me to no end.

Of course, at 5pm when we left, Andrew and I were both wiped out. I didn’t feel too bad, though, since my brother was nodding off on the couch, too. Ahh well, least I don’t have an Oscar party to stay awake for…

  1. Guitar Hero is awesome! Every time we have people over now they actually ask to play it. Gary and I have stopped for the last little while but I might pick it up again this week.

Also, just so you know you can flip the guitar display for a left handed player in the options menu.
