As somebody who has studied both economics and war I’ve often wondered what this planet would be like had the human race somehow managed to avoid fighting two world wars. Would it be better or worse. If WWII had not required the drafting into military service of such a large portion of the predominantly male workforce and thus the “drafting” of woman into the workforce to replace the missing men, would women in the allied (ie: western) nations have the same rights that they do today? If “Rosie the riveter” was (one of) the proverbial “camel’s nose under the tent flap” that opened the way to the (so called) equality in the workplace that we have today, where do you think we’d be if Rosie has been told to stay home?
